Fines and penalties issued by government agencies are avoidable and preventable if only operators train their employees to become knowledgeable and updated on all State and City laws and regulations that impact their operation. Implementing policies and procedures to be compliant is easier said than done.
However, until they feel the sting of the fines and penalties do they realized the cost effectiveness to know, share and continuously train employees to meet all the necessary regulatory standards and procedures. Food Safety, Sanitation, Wage and hour laws, tip distribution, sick leave, personal time off, retaliation and more recently use of credit check in hiring decisions and the use of words and phrases in the narrative of hiring employees that appear to be discrimination of protected classes of persons
The more training you provide the least likely you will be fined
It is a good operating strategy for operators and managers to be aware of all laws and regulation that govern the operation of their business and to make it part of their daily routine to inspect for compliance while circling from Kitchen to Dining Room, to Store room, to Sanitation, to loading dock, and back to the Kitchen before settling down in the office to do paper work.
A well trained team is your best operating strategy.
